Blue Ocean Gear ("we", "our", or "us") operates the Blue Ocean Gear mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our App.
Information We Collect
We collect the following types of information:
- Account Information: Email address and password used to authenticate with our service.
- Device Location: With your permission, we access your device's GPS to display your position on the map relative to your buoys. Location data is used only within the app and is not stored on our servers.
- Buoy Data: Buoy telemetry data including GPS coordinates, sensor readings (water temperature, depth, wave metrics), battery status, and operational status. This data is collected from your buoys via satellite communication.
- Cached Data: The App stores buoy data locally on your device for offline access. You can clear this cache at any time from the Settings screen.
How We Use Your Information
- To authenticate you and provide access to your buoy monitoring dashboard
- To display real-time buoy locations, status, and sensor data
- To show your current location on the map for reference
- To send commands to your buoys (timing mode changes)
- To display buoy movement history and analytics
Data Storage and Security
Your account credentials are transmitted securely over HTTPS. Authentication tokens are stored locally on your device. Buoy data is cached locally for offline access and can be cleared from the Settings screen.
We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (TLS/SSL), JWT-based authentication, and secure server infrastructure hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We do not share your buoy data with any third parties. Your data may be processed by our cloud infrastructure providers (AWS) solely for the purpose of delivering our service to you.
Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party services:
- OpenStreetMap: Map tiles for displaying buoy locations. OpenStreetMap may collect anonymous usage data per their privacy policy.
Permissions
The App requests the following device permissions:
- Location (GPS): To show your position on the map. This is optional and you can deny or revoke this permission at any time.
- Internet Access: To communicate with our servers and retrieve buoy data.
Data Retention
Account data is retained while your account is active. Locally cached buoy data can be cleared at any time from the App's Settings. If you wish to delete your account and all associated data, please contact us.
Children's Privacy
Our App is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
